Yemeni Coffee Revival

Yemeni Coffee Revival

The coffee industry in Yemen, once the country's biggest cash crop, has been facing significant challenges in recent years, including limited export potential and declining production due to low-producing coffee trees, seasonal pests, and disease. However, with the support of the USAID Economic Recovery and Livelihoods program, Yemeni coffee farmers, producers, and traders are now harnessing the country's economic potential. Through technical assistance, training, and market linkages, USAID has enabled Yemeni coffee to reach upscale specialty markets, significantly improving its value proposition and creating a foundation for sustainable growth. This initiative not only improves the resilience of Yemen's coffee farmers but also underscores the growing confidence in the quality of Yemeni coffee among international buyers. What's remarkable is the fact that USAID has successfully negotiated sales agreements with prominent coffee traders and distributors valued at $3.8 million, marking a significant increase in market linkages and trade activities.
