Vietnamese Coffee Giant Cactus Expands in Toronto

Vietnamese coffee exports to Canada surged by 12.2% in early 2024, reaching over $4.4 million, and hit a decade-high of $32 million in 2023. Cactus, a Vietnamese coffee enterprise, capitalized on this momentum by opening a store in Toronto in 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite initial challenges, the store has flourished, cultivating a loyal customer base. Co-owner Nguyen Thi Kim Anh envisions the brand thriving like a resilient cactus, eyeing significant growth through franchising. The Vietnamese Trade Counsellor in Canada, Tran Thu Quynh, expressed intentions to collaborate with Cactus to promote Vietnamese brands. The CPTPP agreement has granted Vietnamese coffee a competitive edge, helping it potentially overtake Mexico to become one of Canada's top 10 coffee exporters. With a 2% market share in Canada, Vietnam is poised to enhance its coffee export value, leveraging Cactus's expanding presence and the favorable trade environment.
