The University of California, Davis celebrated the grand opening of its Coffee Center on May 3, the first academic facility in the U.S. dedicated entirely to coffee research and education. The center, located within the College of Engineering, is designed to advance coffee science through multidisciplinary research and teaching. It features state-of-the-art laboratories for pre- and post-harvest research, including a pilot roastery funded by industry partners like Peet’s Coffee. The facility aims to enhance knowledge and innovation in the coffee industry, providing students across various disciplines, including engineering and food science, with unique educational and career opportunities in the field of coffee. Chancellor Gary S. May emphasized the center's role in bringing rigorous coffee science to the global stage, supported by a community of over 50 UC Davis experts.
