The Ox Shoppe Cafe in Madison Township offers more than just delicious doughnuts and coffee. It's a part of a nonprofit aimed at helping people with barriers to employment find dignified jobs. Launched by Darrell and Dawn Fleming-Kendall, the cafe and its flagship store in Thompson Township provide artisanal treats while doubling as training centers. The initiative supports those with disabilities, individuals in recovery, post-incarceration re-entry, and young adults out of foster care. Profits are reinvested into the mission, and the cafe boasts a 100% job placement rate. The Madison location was a serendipitous find and has been a success since opening. By merging business with social good, the Flemings are turning every doughnut sold into a stepping stone towards meaningful employment.
