Research focused on the sustainability of takeaway coffee shops in Govanhill. A survey was conducted at 30 different establishments, including both high street and non-high street locations. The study aimed to evaluate how these shops handle waste and promote eco-friendly practices. Coffee prices were also analyzed, revealing a wide range from £1.99 to £3.90, with an average of £3.29.
Key findings include:
• Some cheaper coffee shops, like Gusto and Relish, ranked high for sustainability.
• Many establishments offered discounts for using reusable cups, promoting eco-conscious habits.
• Most places provided vegan options and a variety of plant-based milks.
• Only half of the shops separated organic waste, despite regulations requiring it for larger waste producers.
Understanding these sustainability practices is crucial for consumers. By choosing eco-friendly coffee shops, customers can support local businesses and encourage responsible waste management. This research aims to inspire similar initiatives in other cities.
