Southington Officials Approve New Coffee Chain Site

Southington, CT, residents will soon have a new spot for their caffeine fix, thanks to the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission's approval of a new Aroma Joe's coffee take-out location. The commission voted 6-1 to approve the site plan, which will see a new Aroma Joe's built at the former site of Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard on Queen Street. The project is spearheaded by Java Junction LLC, based in Bristol, and involves demolishing the existing structure to construct a brand-new 1,001-square-foot building. The new coffee shop will feature a drive-through and a walk-up window, with no indoor seating available to the public. The parking lot will primarily serve employees and customers picking up orders. Safety concerns raised during the approval process led to conditions such as adding a speed bump, improving site access, and installing a no-left-turn sign at one exit. Aroma Joe's, a Portland, Maine-based chain, is known for its variety of hot and cold coffee drinks.
