Snapchill Recalls Cold Brew Over Botulism Risk, No Illnesses Reported

Wisconsin-based Snapchill is recalling all unexpired canned cold brew products due to a potential risk of clostridium botulinum growth, the bacterium that causes botulism. The recall notice, affecting more than 150 coffee roasters and retailers nationwide, was issued after the FDA notified the company of regulatory non-compliance regarding their low-acid canned food process. While Snapchill has reported no instances of the toxin's growth and no related illnesses, the company is taking precautionary measures, urging consumers to either destroy the products or return them for a refund. Snapchill, which originated as Elemental Beverage Company in Massachusetts, partners with various specialty coffee roasters to produce ready-to-drink cold brew cans using a proprietary chilling process. The recall highlights the FDA's stringent regulations for low-acid foods, which include airtight manufactured cold brew products. Snapchill is currently working with the FDA to meet regulatory requirements and ensure product safety moving forward.
