Civet coffee, or kopi luwak, is the world's most expensive coffee, costing up to $600 per pound due to its unique production process involving Asian palm civets. These animals eat coffee cherries and ferment them in their digestive tract before defecating them. The beans are then collected and processed into coffee. I visited a kopi luwak farm in Bali, where I tasted the coffee priced at 50,000 Indonesian Rupiah per cup. Although it was decent, it didn't seem to justify the high price, appearing more as a gimmick rather than a superior coffee. Despite its fame, civet coffee may not offer the exceptional experience its price suggests.
Lux Cafe Club carries authentic and ethically-sourced Kopi Luwak here.
