Shrewsbury Coffee Company Boosts Burundi's Coffee Economy with Academy

A Shrewsbury coffee company is partnering with the U.S. Agency for International Development to enhance the coffee industry in Burundi. The initiative focuses on creating a coffee academy aimed at improving production and export of high-quality specialty coffee. This academy will provide education and training, particularly for women and youth, in Burundi’s coffee sector.

• The Coffee Academy of Burundi will be located in Bujumbura, the largest city in the country.

• The project aims to create 600 new jobs and increase coffee exports to the U.S. by $400,000 by 2026.

• JNP Coffee and USAID will fund land purchase, equipment, and construction of a dry mill.

• The academy is part of a broader mission to elevate Burundian coffee on the global stage and improve economic opportunities for locals.

This initiative is significant as it not only supports the local economy but also empowers marginalized groups, fostering growth and sustainability in Burundi's coffee industry.
