Schuyler Lake's Coffee House Thrives with Diverse Talent

Every fourth Saturday, the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church transforms into a vibrant venue for local performers during its open mic night. Launched in December 2015, this event, hosted by Timothy Peters, offers a stage for a wide range of talents including musicians, comedians, and spoken word artists. The atmosphere is further enriched by Pastor Sharon Rankins-Burd, who provides musical accompaniment. The coffee house initiative began as a way to utilize the church building more fully and to provide a platform for local talent. Performers range from classical musicians to folk singers, with regular features like historical monologues by Dr. Tom Huntsman. The event, free and open to the public, also offers refreshments, making it a cherished community gathering that continues to draw a diverse crowd.
