UNSW engineers have pioneered a new method that drastically reduces the brewing time of cold brew coffee from hours to minutes using ultrasonic sound waves. Traditional cold brew takes 12 to 24 hours, but with the new technology, developed by Dr. Francisco Trujillo and his team, this process can be completed in under three minutes. By incorporating an ultrasonic reactor in a modified espresso machine, the method uses sound waves to enhance the extraction of flavors from coffee grounds. This breakthrough not only maintains the beloved taste profile of cold brew but also makes it accessible anytime without the long wait.
