Prospect KC and Messenger Coffee Reopen The Nook at KC Central Library

A reimagined coffee shop called The Nook is set to reopen inside the iconic Central Library in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, on August 7. Closed during the pandemic, The Nook returns with a menu featuring pastries, sandwiches, and salads prepared by culinary students from The Prospect KC, along with drinks crafted by Messenger Coffee Co. The collaboration aims to create lasting change by addressing food access, nutrition education, and culinary job training. The 1,350-square-foot space will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Prospect KC founder, Shanita McAfee-Bryant, emphasizes the importance of the live-training environment for students enrolled in the organization’s 16-week culinary program. The Nook's menu includes literary-themed items inspired by iconic figures like Charlie Parker, Gordon Parks, Langston Hughes, and more. Besides coffee, the menu offers breakfast sandwiches, mid-day sandwiches, salads, and daily bakery items, aiming to provide a high-impact solution to empower lives and disrupt poverty.
