Pawsific Northwest Cat Cafe Tackles Thurston County's Feline Population Boom

Inside Olympia's Pawsific Northwest Cat Cafe, the playful antics of kittens mask a serious issue: a feline population explosion in Thurston County. Owner Tiffany Weitzel reveals that many of these cats were rescued from dire situations, including dumpsters and beneath houses. Without intervention, these kittens would soon contribute to the cycle, potentially having their own litters by six months old. This could lead to multiple litters annually, each ranging from three to seven kittens. The cafe offers a unique experience where $15 buys a coffee and 50 minutes with adoptable cats, aiming to make a significant impact by facilitating adoptions. Anna Singleton, one of the cafe's patrons, found her ideal match in a kitten named Coffee. Weitzel, a former ICU nurse, dedicates up to 14 hours a day to the cause and aims to adopt out 750 cats annually. Despite the long hours, she finds joy and purpose in her work, uplifted by the presence of so many cats.
