A new series of barista competitions called Community Coffee Champs has been launched by the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA). This initiative aims to create a more inclusive environment for coffee enthusiasts across Australia. The competitions will serve as preliminary rounds leading to the Australian Coffee Championships (ACC) in 2025. The first event will take place from September 20 to 22 in Queensland and will feature various competitions, including Barista, Brewers Cup, and Latte Art.
• The Community Coffee Champs will allow participants from diverse backgrounds to compete fairly.
• All necessary equipment will be provided by sponsors, easing the burden on competitors.
• The Barista Competition requires making espressi and drinks with both animal and plant-based milks.
• The Brewers Cup focuses on individually brewed coffees, while the Latte Art Competition emphasizes matching designs.
This new format is significant as it promotes accessibility and encourages more people to engage with the coffee community. It reflects a shift towards inclusivity in competitive settings, fostering talent and creativity among baristas.
