New Beginnings - Prodigy Coffeehouse Takes Over Former Purple Door Space

A new chapter begins as Prodigy Coffeehouse prepares to open its doors in the space previously occupied by Purple Door Cafe. This nonprofit coffee shop aims to provide job training for young adults, particularly those facing homelessness. With a revamped mission, Prodigy Coffeehouse will continue the legacy of empowerment and opportunity in the community.

• Prodigy Coffeehouse will take over the location at 1640 Sherman Street, previously home to Purple Door Cafe, which closed due to operational challenges.

• The new coffee shop will offer a year-long apprenticeship program, helping young adults gain valuable skills in the coffee industry.

• Prodigy Ventures already operates two successful coffee shops and has seen 170 graduates complete its training program since 2017.

• The new location will serve house-roasted coffee, pastries, and locally-sourced meals, providing additional job opportunities for apprentices.

This transition is significant as it not only preserves a community resource but also adapts to the evolving needs of young people. By focusing on job readiness and offering real-world experiences, Prodigy Coffeehouse aims to create a supportive environment for youth, fostering growth and belonging.
