MOTW Coffee & Pastries is set to open its first Massachusetts franchise in Shrewsbury, offering more than just coffee and pastries; it's a hub for community building. Founded by Kader Kapadia and Salwa Zakaria, the shop is part of a larger franchise that grew from the popular Instagram account @muslimsoftheworld, created by Sajjad Shah in response to rising anti-Muslim sentiments. The brand has a strong humanitarian mission, raising millions for causes like medical care and shelter in Yemen and Ethiopia. Kapadia and Zakaria, both healthcare IT professionals, were drawn to the franchise by their love for coffee and its community-oriented mission. They plan to feature board games and standup comedy nights to encourage socializing, aiming to create a space where people can truly connect. The Shrewsbury location will be the seventh MOTW Coffee shop in the U.S., joining others in Connecticut, Illinois, and Indiana. With extended hours on weekends, the couple hopes to offer a welcoming, unconventional coffee experience.
