Joey's Brew Brings Fresh Flavor and Local History to Fort Novosel

Joey’s Brew celebrated its grand opening with a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the Soldier Service Center on Fort Novosel on June 12, 2024. This new coffee spot, a product of collaboration between Fort Novosel's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) and Mural City Coffee Company from Dothan, Alabama, aims to enhance the daily experiences of soldiers, civilians, and family members who frequent the base. Col. John P. Miller, Fort Novosel garrison commander, highlighted the significance of the Joey’s Brew branding, which connects deeply with the local history of the base. Named after the kangaroo, a symbol from the 82nd Medical Detachment's patch that paid homage to their mission supporting the Australian Army in Vietnam, Joey’s Brew underscores the strong ties between Fort Novosel’s past and its community. The event emphasized the importance of community partnerships, with leaders from both the base and Mural City Coffee Company participating in the ribbon cutting and inviting attendees to sample the new offerings. Joey’s Brew aims to be more than just a coffee shop; it represents a bridge between the military base and the surrounding community, fostering goodwill and camaraderie.
