India's Third Wave Coffee

India's Third Wave Coffee plans to open 50 new stores and triple its roastery capacity within the next 12 months, focusing on consolidating its presence in key cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai, and entering new markets such as Chennai. CEO Rajat Luthra outlined the expansion strategy, which includes scaling operations in cities where they already have a strong footprint and expanding central roastery operations to meet the increased demand. The company, currently operating 108 stores, aims to aggressively market its beans with new equipment and land deals finalized for expansion. After securing a $35 million investment in September 2023, Third Wave Coffee is part of a burgeoning scene of Indian coffee start-ups like Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters, Subko Coffee, and abCoffee, all raising capital for growth. International competitors such as Starbucks, Costa Coffee, Tim Hortons, and Pret A Manger have also been expanding rapidly in the Indian market.
