Iced Coffee Craze - Consumers Shift to Brew-at-Home Amid Soaring Prices

The popularity of iced coffee is on the rise, with 35% of coffee orders at cafes and restaurants now being cold, up from 28% in 2017. However, the higher cost of these chilled beverages is driving many consumers to seek more affordable options, especially as global coffee prices soar due to dry conditions in key growing regions. The average cost of a cold brew in the U.S. is $5.14, compared to $3.08 for a regular cup of coffee. This price disparity is pushing consumers to buy their iced coffee from grocery stores or make it at home, where innovations like Nescafé's cold-liquid-dissolvable coffee and Keurig's upcoming "K-Brew+Chill" machine are making it easier and more economical to enjoy café-quality cold coffee. As grocery store brands capitalise on this trend, coffee shops are working hard to retain their customer base by promoting new cold drink offerings. Dunkin’ is one such brand, offering iced coffee and "refreshers" both in-store and on retail shelves.
