Gardiner Rebounds - Shops Reopen After Devastating Flood

Businesses in Gardiner are bouncing back after a catastrophic flood in December, with Bintliff’s Corner Brew reopening and the local Hannaford supermarket aiming for an April return. The flood, which was a result of a powerful rain and windstorm, had left the downtown area under five feet of water, causing extensive damage to inventory and infrastructure. The community showed resilience, supporting businesses even amid power outages and challenging conditions. Statewide, the storm claimed four lives and led to power outages for over 400,000 residents. Recovery centers have been established, and federal assistance has been made available for the first time since 2008 to aid residents and businesses. The state is also considering additional funds to help with storm damage and to prepare for future events.
