Empowering Women Through Coffee in Portland, Maine

Jocelyne Kamikazi, a cafe owner in Portland, Maine, combines her passion for coffee with a deep commitment to empower women and change lives in her home country, Burundi. Burundi Star Coffee, established in 2020, not only serves high-quality coffee but also directly trades with coffee farmers in Burundi, significantly boosting their profits. Kamikazi’s initiative has led to the planting of 4,000 coffee trees, with the harvest expected to begin this year. A strong advocate for education, particularly for girls who often are left behind in Burundi, Kamikazi’s efforts have enabled 15 children to attend school last year. Her vision extends beyond business, aiming to provide better opportunities for her community back home while serving exceptional coffee in Maine.
