East Village Cafe Introduces Exotic Espresso Blends

A small cafe in the East Village, Not as Bitter, has become a hub for coffee enthusiasts keen to try unconventional espresso drinks mixed with fruit purees. Opened in March at 241 E. 10th Street, the cafe offers a variety of specialty lattes inspired by flavors like avocado toast and banana splits. The standout is undoubtedly the durian latte, incorporating the polarizing fruit known for its strong aroma. Owner Linda Wang, who also helped open nearby Appas Pizza, favors the combination of creamy fruits like papaya, banana, and durian with espresso, as they help to soften the coffee's bitterness. The durian latte, priced at $8.50 due to the cost of durian, includes simple syrup, coconut milk, heavy cream, and espresso.
