Research indicates that women who drink caffeinated coffee daily may have a better chance of avoiding chronic diseases as they age. This study, presented at the American Society for Nutrition meeting, analyzed data from over 47,000 women in the Nurses’ Health Study. The researchers found that those who regularly consumed caffeinated coffee were more likely to meet criteria for healthy aging, which includes living past 70 without major diseases and maintaining good mental and physical health. Each additional cup of coffee per day increased the likelihood of healthy aging by 2% to 5%, up to five cups. However, tea, decaffeinated coffee, and cola did not show similar benefits. While coffee may provide unique health advantages, it should be part of a balanced lifestyle that includes exercise and a nutritious diet. The findings suggest coffee can support healthy aging, but further research is needed to confirm these results across diverse populations.
