Denila Kumar from Qatar has triumphed as Costa Coffee's Global Barista of the Year 2024, following an intense competition held at the Heathrow Sofitel Hotel in London. The event took place from July 2 to 3 and saw baristas from around the world showcasing their skills. Shogo Abe from Japan was the runner-up, and Abdin Subedi from the UK secured third place. The judging panel, led by Costa Coffee’s Master of Coffee Gennaro Pelliccia, praised Kumar for her exceptional skills, creativity, and dedication. Kumar impressed judges across multiple rounds, including technical and sensory challenges, culminating in her innovative signature drink, Saffronilla. She expressed gratitude for the support of her team and family, acknowledging the competition as a journey of growth and learning. Costa Coffee, a British café chain founded by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971, continues to expand globally, with over 4,000 locations worldwide.
