The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE)/Cup of Excellence (CoE) have formed a strategic partnership to standardize the evaluation and appreciation of high-quality specialty coffees. This collaboration brings together the world's largest coffee trade organization and the organizers of the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition and auction platform. The partnership aims to integrate the SCA's new Coffee Value Assessment (CVA) into the Cup of Excellence, focusing on removing bias and ensuring fair and impartial judging. The CVA, a new set of tools and assessment types for professional coffee evaluation, will be refined and adapted to the competition by CoE professional head judges and staff, along with the SCA technical team. The partnership will also emphasize education and professional coffee cupper certification, particularly for in-country CoE judges. This move is expected to have a positive impact on farmers, producing countries, and roasters searching for high-quality coffees.
