The closure of Trailside Coffee Company in downtown Springdale, Arkansas, has sent shockwaves through the community. After eight years of operation, owner Katie Schneider was forced to shut down her beloved coffee shop due to the city's relentless construction and revitalization efforts. While the growth is undoubtedly beneficial for the city, Schneider's business has suffered greatly, with the presence of food trucks and coffee trailers in front of her shop being a major contributing factor. The mayor, Doug Sprouse, acknowledges the challenges of keeping local businesses happy, but Schneider claims that her pleas for help have fallen on deaf ears. As the city continues its seven-year master plan, it's unclear what the future holds for the remaining businesses in the area. In my opinion, the city's prioritization of growth over small businesses is a concerning trend that could have long-term consequences for the community.
