Coffee Exports Gear Up for EU Regulations

India's coffee exporters are preparing for new EU regulations aimed at preventing deforestation. The Coffee Board is actively working on a grower-registration model and gathering geo-location data to ensure compliance with the Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Although India is classified as a low-risk country, exporters are being engaged to avoid any challenges. The EUDR mandates that products exported to the EU must come from land that has not been deforested since December 31, 2020. Non-compliance could lead to significant fines and confiscation of goods.

• The Coffee Board is conducting polygon mapping for coffee plots over four hectares to meet EUDR requirements.

• India's coffee exports surged 40.2% year-on-year in FY25, reaching $1.8 billion.

• Value-added coffee exports now make up 38% of total exports, with major markets including Italy, Russia, and the UAE.

• The Coffee Board has launched the India Coffee App to support stakeholders with real-time information and services.

This proactive approach is crucial as it not only safeguards India's coffee trade but also aligns with global sustainability efforts. By complying with these regulations, India can maintain its competitive edge in the international market while promoting responsible farming practices.
