This study explores how tea and coffee consumption relate to mental health issues like depression and anxiety in Iran. Researchers collected data from 1,994 adults in five major cities between February 2018 and July 2019. Participants reported their daily or weekly intake of tea and coffee. The study used a validated scale to measure symptoms of anxiety and depression.
• No significant link was found between tea consumption and mental health issues.
• Coffee drinkers showed a lower risk of depression and anxiety in initial analyses.
• After adjusting for other factors, the link between coffee and depression weakened but still suggested a potential benefit.
• No clear connection was found between coffee and anxiety symptoms.
Understanding these relationships is crucial, especially given the rising mental health challenges in Iran. While tea did not show a connection, coffee may offer some protective effects against depression. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and explore their implications.
