Coffee and Community - How Cruise Coffee Became a Local Hub

Erin Buchla transitioned from a 27-year career as a nanny to creating a beloved community hub with Cruise Coffee Company. The first chapter began in 2018 with a drive-through coffee spot in Scotts Valley, California, which quickly gained a loyal following thanks to its seven bespoke roasts and hearty breakfast options. Buchla expanded her venture during the pandemic by opening Cruise Cafe inside the Santa Cruz Metro bus station. Despite initial reservations due to COVID-19, the cafe flourished by leveraging local bakeries and fostering a strong sense of community. The cafe's offerings include high-quality coffee, artisanal pastries, and various savory dishes, making it a favorite among locals. Buchla further nurtures community ties through events like Scotts Valley Cars & Coffee and monthly "Coffee Shopping" markets featuring local artisans. The latest addition, Cruise Club, operates from a commissary kitchen and offers healthy food options in a scenic office complex, continuing the trend of community-focused service.
