Catzen Coffee Bar & Den is an upcoming specialty coffee shop and cat cafe opening in October 2024 on Grand Avenue in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Founded by Vanessa Beardsley, the cafe aims to be a community hub, blending a traditional coffee shop with a library den housing resident cats. The space will also feature a Coffee Lab for educational classes on coffee, animal behavior, chocolate making, and more. The aesthetic of the cafe is inspired by Mid Century Modern design, with a color palette of turquoise, orange, and grey. The resident cats include Beans, Bialetti, Boudica, Big Cuppa Joe, and Tim the Enchanter. The cafe will prioritize sustainability by using compostable materials and offering discounts for reusable cups and bicycle-using customers. The coffee shop will feature a custom Slayer Steam LP machine and aim to serve high-quality, locally-roasted coffee while maintaining accessibility for all coffee lovers. Local artists and architects from Studio M and Ara Elizabeth will contribute to the design and murals of the space.
