Building a Climate-Smart Future for Coffee in Honduras

A new initiative aims to create a Climate-Smart Coffee Region in Western Honduras, focusing on supporting smallholder coffee farmers. This four-year project, involving major coffee companies and the Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung foundation, seeks to enhance livelihoods while promoting sustainable practices. The project will engage 4,000 families and cover 6,000 hectares of coffee farming land.

• The project will run from 2025 to 2029, targeting the departments of Ocotepeque, Copán, and Lempira.

• It will implement climate adaptation tools such as soil conservation and agroforestry.

• Financial literacy, women's leadership, and youth entrepreneurship are key focus areas.

• Monitoring will ensure transparency and effectiveness in achieving goals.

This initiative is crucial as it addresses the impacts of climate change on coffee production in the region. By promoting sustainable practices, it not only helps farmers but also protects the environment. The project sets a precedent for collaborative efforts in coffee farming, aiming to create a model for other regions facing similar challenges.
