Brewing Progress - Memphis Duo Wins Roaster of the Year

The Cxffeeblack Anti-gentrification Coffee Club, owned by Maurice and Renata Henderson, has been awarded the Most Notable Roaster of the Year by the Sprudge Media Network. The Memphis couple's venture transcends beyond a coffee shop; it's a movement to reclaim the Black history of coffee and educate the community. Maurice's childhood introduction to coffee by his father laid the foundation for their interest, which deepened after African tours and academic studies. Their business, which started with a song in 2019, is now a beloved local hub and is expanding with a new location. Beyond serving coffee, the Hendersons are developing an educational curriculum with Vanderbilt and see their work as a way to empower their community, especially the youth, encouraging them to use their talents for communal benefit. They're not simply serving coffee; they're brewing a stronger future for Memphis.
