De La Salle University (DLSU) has partnered with Gourmet Farms to offer the Philippines' first multidisciplinary coffee elective through its La Salle Food and Water Institute. Dr. Mel Garcia, a chemistry professor at DLSU, emphasizes that while the course's core is chemistry, it's open to all undergraduates and professors across various departments. The program is a response to the coffee industry's demand for research and knowledge-sharing. It aims to provide a deeper understanding of coffee beyond it being a beverage, touching on political, cultural, and economic issues.
