A new study suggests that your morning cup of coffee could do more than just wake you up. Research published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry reveals that combining coffee, which is rich in polyphenols, with milk, which contains protein, can significantly enhance the beverage's anti-inflammatory properties. Polyphenols are natural compounds found in many plant-based foods and are known for their antioxidant effects, which help combat inflammation by reducing oxidative stress. The study showed that when polyphenols bind with proteins, as they do when milk is added to coffee, they are twice as effective in fighting inflammation compared to polyphenols alone. This finding suggests that adding milk to your coffee could potentially lower inflammation in the body, reducing the risk of diseases associated with chronic inflammation, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Experts also recommend a diet rich in colorful fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to further combat inflammation.
