Sumthin Else, a coffee shop located in the Jalan Progo neighborhood of Bandung, Indonesia, showcases a daring approach to architecture by blending Dutch colonial heritage with brutalist modern elements. The design team led by Oktobianto Dwi Prasetyo focused on preserving the historicity of the building while introducing a contemporary twist. Key features include the use of basalt stone in alignment with the existing structure, continuous wood panels, and a light-filled atmosphere through strategically placed gaps in the wood ceiling. The interior fosters interaction with a centrally placed bar counter, crafted from stainless steel and accented with green marble. The design narrative is a testament to the coffee shop’s identity, aiming to create a memorable atmosphere that bridges the past and the present.
