Black Iron Coffee Roasters, a beloved coffee shop in downtown Howell, has reopened after owner Kevin Ridge decided to close it in December due to financial difficulties. The shop's significance to the local community led Jason and Teresa Koch, residents of Marion Township, to step in with plans to either purchase or partner with Ridge to keep the business alive. Although the exact financial arrangement is still being finalized, the Kochs are committed to ensuring the coffee shop's survival. Ridge, who faced job loss and mounting debt, plans to focus on expanding the shop's revenue through e-commerce and wholesale. Despite downsizing staff and limiting hot food offerings, the shop has received positive responses from the community since its soft reopening. A grand re-opening event is scheduled for June 21, featuring live music. Ridge and the Kochs are dedicated to maintaining the shop's legacy and connection with the community.
