We caught up with Huang Wei Jie, the 29-year-old social worker by day and coffee entrepreneur by weekend, who runs Calibrate Coffee, a mobile cafe on a motorcycle. Since March 2024, Wei Jie has been bringing specialty coffee to various locations around the island. His love for motorcycles, coffee, and adventure inspired him to create this unique cafe on wheels. Equipped with a La Marzocco Linea Mini espresso machine, Calibrate Coffee offers high-quality espresso-based drinks and mocha, all crafted on the spot.
Wei Jie ensures everything is self-contained, carrying a cooling system for milk and perishables, and even his own water supply. We tried an iced cafe latte made with Tanzanian Bourbon beans, which delivered a robust aroma with delicate fruit notes. The cafe's location is announced on their Instagram, and it mainly operates on weekends. The popularity of this niche venture is evident from the queues that form shortly after Wei Jie arrives at each new spot.
