A new digital platform, ViaNexta, connects coffee farmers from the African diaspora directly to buyers. Founded by Nikisha Bailey and Matt Nam of Win Win Coffee, this platform aims to improve the coffee supply chain. It focuses on providing better prices and stable incomes for Black and brown farmers. Currently in a pilot phase, ViaNexta engages around 600 vetted farmers and has 10 buyers, including roasters and retailers.
• The platform allows for dynamic pricing based on the C-market price, ensuring fair compensation for farmers.
• ViaNexta charges buyers a transaction fee of 2-9% based on volume and offers additional services like quality assurance and logistics.
• There are no costs for farmers to join, which helps reduce market access barriers.
• The platform was developed during the pandemic to streamline sourcing and improve producer support.
This initiative is significant as it empowers farmers by enhancing their market access and profitability. The use of technology, like AI and blockchain, promises to improve transparency and traceability in the coffee industry. As ViaNexta expands, it could transform how coffee is traded, benefiting both producers and consumers.
